Hamill tells a multigeneration story of the Thomson family, beginning with Emily Grace Hamill, who married Fredrick Thomson. Emily was instrumental in the success of the Thomson family and enabled the family to purchase Best’s. The name Hamill has been handed down through 3 generations and resides with Ben Hamill Thomson whose leadership lead to the purchasing of the Sugarloaf Vineyard.
It’s a delicious cabernet sauvignon. Slightly different from the Great Western Cabernet that we source from multiple vineyard sites. It’s deep ruby in colour, with crimson hues. The bouquet shows intense primary notes of dark plum, coupled with black spice, licorice, dried leaf, and cedar. On the palate, expect dense, dark primary fruit flavours of blackberry, black cherry, and plum skin. Followed with black licorice, pepper spice, and tobacco leaf layered throughout the palate. The palate finishes with clove and cocoa notes from the oak. The wine is full of concentration, drive and flavour, with melting soft tannins which gives incredible length. It’s an incredible match with meat dishes, full of intense flavours.
